Italian Easter Wreath

Posted on 1 min read

Easter is fast approaching and we want to be prepared with some delicious recipes for Easter brunch! We like to celebrate Easter with friends and family and there is always a lavishly laid table. Everybody contributes something, and this time we decided to bring an Easter wreath.

The Italian Easter Wreath

The Italian Easter wreath consists of a sweet yeast dough with an egg in the middle and sprinkles on top. Our recipe uses pre coloured eggs to save a little time, but for extra easer fun, you can colour them yourself! Feel free to be creative with the sprinkles and decorate them to your taste. Whether it’s sugar, coloured sprinkles, hearts or other designs — the main thing is that the sprinkles are on it!

For this recipe you will need to allow enough time for the dough to rise. We can promise it’ll be worth it and the Italian Easter wreath is guaranteed to be an eye-catcher!

Instructions
  1. Put the cream sugar, eggs, butter and salt in a bowl.
  2. Warm the milk, making sure it doesn’t get too hot! Put the yeast into the bowl and add the milk while stirring continuously.
  3. Add the flour and stir well. Add more until the dough is no longer sticky.
  4. Place the dough on a lightly floured work surface and knead by hand for 5-10 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a bowl and leave it to rise covered with a cloth in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Divide the dough into six equal pieces. Divide one of these into two halves and roll them out into two strands. Stick the two strands together at one end and then wrap them around each other to form a kind of braid.

  7. Now form a wreath and join the ends together. There should be a hole in the middle, which will later hold an egg.
