With the festive, trick-or-treating weekend upon us, you’ll probably want to whip up some tasty recipes for yourself or to give to those who come knocking on your door.

In this article, you’ll find something to satisfy the famous phrase “trick or treat” with three easy and fun recipes – let the fun begin!

All animal products can be replaced by plant-based alternatives.


Pumpkin faces in puff pastry filled with apricot jam

Yield: 4 squares
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 puff pastry
  • Orange or apricot jam

Preparation:

  1. Unroll the puff pastry and cut 8 squares out of it.
  2. Draw and cut out funny/scary pumpkin faces on 4 of the squares.
  3. On the full squares, add 1-2 tsp of jam and place the cut-out squares on top and seal the edges well. Careful, the jam shouldn’t overflow.
  4. Bake in the oven at 180°C for 15 minutes (or until golden).

Funny chocolate spider muffins

Yield: 12 muffins
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

For the muffins
  • 120g butter
  • 120g flour
  • 80g dark chocolate
  • 80g sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 40g milk
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking powder
For the glaze
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp icing sugar
  • 1-2 tsp milk
For the decoration
  • Liquorice stripes
  • Marshmallows

Preparation

For the muffins
  1. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler and leave to cool.
  2. In another bowl, add the soft butter and the sugar and mix it together well. Then add the eggs one at a time.
  3. Add the milk and the melted chocolate and mix well.
  4. Add the sifted flour, baking powder and cocoa and mix together.
  5. Pour in the muffin tray and bake at 180°C for 20 minutes.
For the decoration
  1. Mix together the glaze ingredients until the texture is smooth.
  2. Once the muffins are cold, drizzle the glaze on top.
  3. Use the liquorice stripes to create the legs of the spiders and little pieces of marshmallows to create the eyes

Fun pea-based eye soup

Yield : 4-5 people
Preparation time : 15 minutes
Cooking time : 40 minutes

Ingredients

For the soup
  • 500g peas (can be frozen)
  • 300g potatoes
  • 1 onion
  • Olive oil
  • Nutmeg, salt and pepper
  • Vegetable broth
Fort he decoration
  • 150g ricotta cheese
  • 100g parmesan
  • Stuffed olives (alternatively: pitted olives and cherry tomatoes)

Preparation:

For the soup
  1. Cut the onion and the potatoes.
  2. Fry the onion in a pot with olive oil, then add the potatoes and the peas.
  3. Cover the vegetables with the broth (or water) and leave to cook until they are soft.
  4. If there is too much liquid, set some aside and blend everything until smooth. Add liquid to reach the desired texture.
  5. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
For the decoration
  1. Mix together the ricotta and the parmesan and shape then into balls.
  2. Cut your stuffed olives and place then on top of the cheese balls. (If you are using pitted olives, also cut the cherry tomatoes into little cubes and place them at the center of the olive to create the illusion of an eye).
  3. Pour the soup in a plate and place as many eyes as you want on it to make it extra-scary.
