Cool Drinks

Posted on 2 min read

Summer is here and the hot days are just around the corner. These are the days when you can’t think of anything but a glass of ice cold water, kombucha or lemonade. Or maybe you are really into science and know that a cup of freshly brewed tea might help even better. ‘How is that supposed to help?’ you might want to ask and here is the nerdy answer. Hot beverages help you start sweating at an increased rate. And while this isn’t a nice thing to feel per se, during evaporation sweat cools down the skin due to the effect known as evaporative cooling. This is the answer to the raised eyebrows at a good old cuppa.

But we wanted to share with you some insights and easy to follow recipes of the coolest (in every sense of the word) summer drinks.

1. Matcha mango lassi

Bright, unusual eye-stopper that will make you ask for more. Slice one mango in two halves, getting rid of the stone, dice and toss into a blender. Then add 1 Tbsp of matcha green tea, 200-220 g / 1 cup of plain yoghurt,  125 ml / ½ cup of milk of your choice, and ½ Tbsp of sugar, honey, other syrup of your choice. Blend until it’s smooth, airy and awesome.

2. Pineapple ginger juice

Cool and hot at the same time – the right thing for those doubters. Prepare 100 gr / 4 ounces of ginger: peel and chop it, cover with 1 L / 4 cups of hot water and let sit for one hour. Then sieve the ginger away leaving only the water. In a pot bring to a boil 2 cups of water with 1 cup of sugar, wait until it’s dissolved. This will be your simple syrup. Allow it to cool then combine with ginger water and 2 cups of pineapple juice. Stir, serve, awe.

3. Raspberry slushy

Thick, very red, very cold. Take 300-400 gr / 10-15 ounces of raspberries, juice of 3 oranges and 1 lemon, 8 tsp of sugar, some ice cubes, toss everything in a blender and run it until the desired consistency. You might want to add some extra ice, berries or sweetener at the end. Totally up to you. Serve in a chilled tall glass with some whipped cream and berries on top. This summer is yours.
